Report: Ryan Tannehill ready to play after knee passes tests

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be ready for the team's full offseason program after passing a series of tests to determine the stability and functionality of his knees, sources told Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

Tannehill was initially believed to require an ACL operation for his knee injury, but only suffered a partially torn ACL and grade 2 MCL sprain that didn't require surgery. He'll be ready in time for the Dolphins' conditioning program, which begins in April.

Salguero added that sources said Tannehill is no more susceptible to tearing his ACL than he would be if he had underwent surgery. He also wouldn't have been ready for offseason workouts if he had opted for surgery.

The 28-year-old hurt his knee against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14 and missed the Dolphins' final three regular season games and their playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Prior to the injury, he had found some success in his first season with new head coach Adam Gase, throwing for 2,995 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions through 13 games.

It was the first injury that forced Tannehill to miss games in his four-year career.
