The Philadelphia Eagles will keep their stellar tandem of offensive tackles in

tact for the 2017 season.

Despite being scheduled for a salary-cap hit of $11.2 million, veteran pass protector Jason Peters will remain with the club next fall, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

There had been some speculation in recent weeks that Peters' massive cap number, combined with the fact that he turned 35 in January, would make him a cut candidate heading into free agency.

Philadelphia could conceivably restructure the terms of his contract to free up cap space if need be, but the key takeaway here is that he'll be returning to the blind side opposite right tackle Lane Johnson. Doing so without having to take a pay cut can be attributed to his continued production now 13 years into his NFL career.

Peters continued to play at a high level through his eighth season in Philadelphia, earning himself a fourth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and the ninth dating back to a five-year stint with the Buffalo Bills.

Returning pair of tackles like Peters and Johnson, who can effectively neutralize an edge rush from the best of opponents, should go a long way towards helping the sophomore development of 2016 first-round quarterback Carson Wentz.
