Arians: Cardinals 'played stupid at times' in 2016 and it cost us

The Arizona Cardinals still can't get over their disappointing 2016 season.

After a promising 2015 ended in an appearance in the NFC Championship game, the Cardinals were favorites to reach Super Bowl LI. Instead, they crashed and burned at 7-8-1.

Head coach Bruce Arians has an explanation for some of those losses.

"Overall, I don't want to use the word stupid, but we played stupid at times and that cost us," he said, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.

"When you look at the close losses and why, there was a lack of discipline at times. There was a lot of guys trying to do too much instead of just doing their job. We missed some kicks we should've made."

The Cardinals still own a veteran-laden roster with plenty of championship caliber. They'll be a popular pick to rebound in 2017.
