Harrison seeking 2-year contract to re-sign with Steelers

Denny Medley / USA TODAY Sports

Not only is James Harrison set on returning for another season, but the veteran pass-rusher doesn't appear to have any intention of calling it a career in his late 30s.

Harrison, who is scheduled to become a free agent when the market opens next month, is seeking a two-year deal in talks to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, agent Bill Parise told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Such a deal would keep him in a Steelers uniform through the 2018 campaign, when he'd be 40 years old.

A career of that length is rare outside of kickers and the occasional quarterback, but Harrison has continued to play at a high level now 15 seasons after catching on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2002.

Harrison started seven of his 15 appearances in 2016, racking up five sacks to move past Jason Gildon for the all-time franchise record. He took his game to another level in the playoffs by posting 2.5 sacks en route to a pair of wins that earned Pittsburgh a spot in the AFC title game.
