Mularkey: Murray still the main guy in Titans' backfield

The Tennessee Titans spent a second-round pick on Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry last spring, but it doesn't sound like they are ready to make him a workhorse.

Henry is an important part of the offense, head coach Mike Mularkey told fans at a ticket holders event Wednesday, according to Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com, but it's veteran DeMarco Murray who will remain the top dog in the Titans' backfield.

Murray led the Titans in rushing last season, bouncing back from a dismal season with the Philadelphia Eagles to record 1,287 yards on 293 attempts with nine touchdowns.

Henry managed 490 yards and five touchdowns on 110 attempts in a backup/short yardage role.

Though Murray is nearing 30 and showed signs of wearing down late in the season, there's little upside for the Titans in admitting he could be leapfrogged on the depth chart by Henry.

By making it clear the job is Murray's to lose, the Titans keep one of their veteran leaders happy and provide Henry with a target to chase.
