Watch: Emotional Rivers says he'll 'always be playing for San Diego'

Philip Rivers can't help but get emotional when speaking about his time in San Diego.

The quarterback of the now-Los Angeles Chargers was a guest at a San Diego Hall of Champions dinner on Tuesday in honor of former teammate Nick Hardwick and he took to the stage to share some touching words with those in attendance.

"It really has been very special to be a San Diego Charger and I hope that you can always see me as that," Rivers said, his voice quavering as he spoke.

"I know it'll be different but just know that, I know ya'll are understanding in knowing that I will play like crazy and fight like crazy as a Los Angeles Charger, just like I did for you guys. And I know y'all can respect and understand that. But I hope you also know that I will always be playing for San Diego as well."

Rivers also said his only regret during his 13-year stay in San Diego is that he was unable to bring the city a championship.
