49ers' K'Waun Williams: Signing with 49ers

Williams (ankle) is expected to sign a one-year deal with the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis:

The 25-year-old played his first two seasons out of Pittsburgh with the Browns before being waived prior to the season. He had ankle surgery in early November, which held an estimated 12 weeks of recovery time. The 49ers have reportedly had their eye on Williams and have opted to give him a shot with the club. He drew 10 starts during his 26 games with the Browns, while recording 77 tackles, two sacks, 10 passes defended and three forced fumbles in the process. He figures to either compete for a backup role at free safety providing depth behind Eric Reid (biceps) or try to find a more prominent role at cornerback.
