Elliott wasn't detained, Columbus police confirm

Scott R. Galvin / USA TODAY Sports

After a TMZ report suggested Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was detained by police at a Columbus nightclub over the weekend, police stated Tuesday that the NFL's 2016 rushing leader wasn't stopped by authorities or guilty of any wrongdoing, according to Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News.

Elliott also tweeted Saturday morning that he had not been detained and TMZ subsequently updated its report to say he merely spoke to police.

A spokesperson for the Columbus police said that while Elliott was in the club, another patron entered the bar carrying a pistol and claiming to be his brother. When Elliott found out the patron was being arrested, he approached and spoke to him briefly, but was never detained or stopped by authorities.

Elliott played his college ball at Ohio State, which is located in Columbus.
