Report: Cardinals have 'zero interest' in Jay Cutler

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

One of the more interesting offseason story lines will involve Jay Cutler and where he ends up in the seemingly likely event the Chicago Bears elect to part ways.

Among the many possibilities floated thus far, the veteran signal-caller's fit with the Cardinals became a talking point when Peter King said in his MMQB column that he's "not going to be shocked" if he ends up in Arizona.

Kent Somers of AZ Central Sports shot down any and all speculation on that front Tuesday,

King had referenced the fit with head coach Bruce Arians, both from a personality and scheme standpoint, in making the case for Cutler to land in Arizona as an eventual replacement for Carson Palmer.

But considering Cutler will almost certainly have starting options elsewhere, and the fact that he'd be an incredibly expensive backup for a team setting its sights on Super Bowl contention, such a pairing always seemed unlikely.

The Cardinals will stick with Palmer as the unquestioned starter while presumably looking into the possibility of drafting a young quarterback that can be groomed for the future.

As for Cutler, it may only be a matter of time before he has a chance to test the free-agent market. The Chicago Bears can save all but $2 million of his $16-million cap hit with an outright release this offseason.
