Jared Odrick is heading back to the free-agent market.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released the veteran defensive lineman on Monday, the team announced. The move was initially made public by Odrick's agent David Canter.

With no guaranteed money remaining on the five-year, $42.5-million deal he signed to join the Jaguars back in 2015, it was only ever a matter of time before the team opted to part ways.

The move saves the Jaguars $8.5 million in salary-cap space for the 2017 campaign and each of the two seasons that follow.

Odrick started all 16 games and racked up 5.5 sacks during his first season in Jacksonville, but injury issues limited him to just six contests in 2016.

The 29-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent as soon as the move becomes official, thus getting a head start on players with expiring contracts that won't hit the open market until the new league year begins March 9.
