Giants GM: Of course we want Pierre-Paul back
With free agency on the horizon, retaining Jason Pierre-Paul appears to be atop New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese's list of priorities.
Pierre-Paul is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after posting 53 tackles, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles in 12 games last season.
The 28-year-old has been an integral part of the team's pass rush and reintegrated himself into the lineup after severing his right index finger in a July 2015 fireworks incident, while also damaging other fingers.
"Do we want him back? Of course we want him back," Reese said to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "He's a good football player."
New York invested heavily in its defensive line last summer, signing defensive end Olivier Vernon to a five-year, $85-million contract and inked defensive tackle Damon Harrison to a five-year, $46.2-million deal. Signing Pierre-Paul to a lucrative extension would align with the team's philosophy, but it may no longer be feasible for the Giants.
If Pierre-Paul receives the franchise tag, he'll likely be paid $17 million for the 2017 season.
