Report: Dolphins considering another trade to land starting cornerback

Jasen Vinlove / USA TODAY Sports

As the Miami Dolphins set out to address a secondary that got torched en route to a first-round playoff exit, perhaps the trade market can be considered a realistic avenue to explore.

Just as they did in acquiring Byron Maxwell, the Dolphins have considered making a trade to land a starting cornerback this offseason, Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald reports.

Miami landed Maxwell and linebacker Kiko Alonso from the Philadelphia Eagles last March in exchange for a swap of the No. 8 and No. 13 overall draft picks.

Though trades aren't exactly common in the NFL, there are presumably a number of defensive backs that would be made available for the right price heading into the new league year. And with Mike Tannenbaum at the controls, the Dolphins have certainly shown a willingness to swing such deals.

Maxwell will return to a starting cornerback role after putting together a solid first season in Miami, recording two interceptions and 15 passes defensed across 13 games.

The Dolphins could likely benefit from another veteran at that all-important spot, as recent draft picks Xavien Howard, Tony Lippett, and Bobby McCain currently round out an otherwise inexperienced the depth chart.
