Falcons fill remaining vacancies on coaching staff

Dale Zanine / USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons flushed out their coaching staff Friday, announcing the hirings of seven assistant coaches.

Joining the team led by head coach Dan Quinn are Bush Hamdan as quarterbacks coach, Kyle Flood as the assistant offensive line coach, Charlie Jackson and Jess Simpson as defensive assistants, and Justin Outten, Dave Brock, and Charlie Weis Jr. as offensive assistants.

Flood, Brock, and Hamdan join the team from the collegiate level, Outten was a coaching intern with the Falcons last season, Simpson makes the jump from prep football, Jackson has experience on other NFL defensive staffs, and Weis Jr. was an offensive analyst at Alabama. He is the son of former NFL assistant and college head coach Charlie Weis.

The moves are notable as new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian also recently coached at the collegiate level, running Alabama's offense for just one game - the national championship game.

The Falcons lost former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, as he was named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Atlanta made quite the coaching overhaul just days after reaching Super Bowl LI. It remains to be seen whether they'll be able to return to their 11-5 form of 2016.
