Two defensive linemen are among the players the Miami Dolphins released as part of salary-cap saving moves Thursday.

Defensive end Mario Williams and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell were both handed their walking papers, as was cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu.

Williams, 32, was signed a year ago to help replace Olivier Vernon, who departed for a big-money deal in free agency. It didn't work out. Williams was a huge disappointment, making only 1.5 sacks and getting publicly called out by his coaches.

Williams was set to cost $10.5 million against the Dolphins' salary cap.

Mitchell's release will save the Dolphins $4 million. The 29-year-old missed roughly half of last season on IR.

Despite reports that left tackle Branden Albert would be released, the team has decided to hold off on cutting him, while it assess trade possibilities.
