Jaguars re-sign backup QB Henne

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed backup quarterback Chad Henne, the team announced on Wednesday.

Henne first signed with the Jaguars in 2012 as a placeholder and has backed up starter Blake Bortles for the past three seasons.

"With nine years of NFL experience, Chad has an abundance of knowledge. Chad provides leadership to our offensive meeting room," head coach Doug Marrone said.

With a new coaching staff in place, general manager David Caldwell had previously stated that Bortles' hold on the quarterback job would be up for evaluation, but with the re-signing of Henne, there is little doubt Bortles will be given every opportunity to lead the team again in 2017.

Bortles turned in a disappointing 2016 season that resulted in a 3-13 record and a top-five draft pick. It's likely that draft spot will not be used on a quarterback with Bortles and Henne still in the fold.
