Cardinals president: Brown 'very healthy' after dealing with sickle cell issue

The Arizona Cardinals may be poised for a major boost in playmaking ability as they look to get back to the playoffs next season.

Team president Michael Bidwill shared some positive news on John Brown on Tuesday, telling Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that the wide receiver should return to form in 2017.

"He is very healthy, looks like they found the issue," Bidwill said. "We'll get 'Smoke' back the way we had him."

Brown missed practices and played through leg issues caused by a sickle cell trait during a frustrating 2016 campaign. In a limited workload across 15 games, the 26-year-old managed just 39 receptions for 517 yards and two touchdowns.

Now seemingly having identified and addressed the issue, he'll look to recapture the form that saw him emerge as an explosive playmaker in 2015.

The former third-round pick finished his breakout sophomore season with 65 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns, helping Arizona finish the year ranked first in total yards and second in scoring.
