Reed: Redskins have to re-sign Cousins, both WRs

Jordan Reed wants everyone back in Washington.

Starting with finding a way to re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Redskins tight end told SiriusXM NFL Radio over the weekend that keeping the offense intact is the key to getting back to the playoffs.

"I think first of all, we got to bring Kirk back," Reed said, according to Scott Allen of The Washington Post. "We got to bring Kirk back. We got to bring two of our most valuable weapons back - Pierre (Garcon) and (DeSean Jackson) - for us to have a shot. So, I think we need to bring those guys back and add a couple more pieces on defense, and I think we'll be right were we need to be."

Of the three, Garcon and Jackson are more likely to test the free-agent market. It remains to be seen if both, or either, can be re-signed by Washington in the coming weeks.

Fortunately for Reed, however, it doesn't look like Cousins is going anywhere. The Redskins are expected to discuss a long-term extension with the quarterback on the heels of a particularly productive 2016 season, while the franchise tag would presumably be used for a second consecutive year in the event an agreement isn't reached.

Either way, barring a massive trade offer from a quarterback-needy team, the Redskins should find a way to keep Cousins.

The Washington offense enters 2017 looking to build upon a year in which it ranked third in total yards and 12th in scoring. Cousins taking another step in his development was crucial for that success, as he finished with 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
