Report: Patriots' Daboll expected to interview for Alabama OC job

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Saban might be looking to the NFL to fill the vacant Alabama offensive coordinator position, as sources told Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports that the Crimson Tide will interview New England Patriots assistant Brian Daboll.

The role became available last week, when Steve Sarkisian bolted Tuscaloosa to become the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator, after serving in the position for just one game.

Daboll has served as the Patriots' tight ends coach since 2014. He previously has experience as an offensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-2012.

The 41-year-old has worked with Saban before, taking a position as a graduate assistant at Michigan State under the coaching legend from 1998-99.

Whoever fills the position for Alabama will be the third man to hold the job since the calendar turned to 2017. Lane Kiffin left the role to become head coach at Florida Atlantic on Jan. 2, and the national title game loss to Clemson was the only game Sarkisian served in the job.
