Jets' contract with Fitzpatrick expires

The New York Jets' one-year deal with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was voided Friday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN, effectively ending the veteran passer's tenure with the team.

After contract negotiations spanned the length of the offseason, the Jets and Fitzpatrick came to terms on a one-year, $12-million pact. But after Fitzpatrick put together a 12-touchdown, 17-interception season, the Jets needed only to eat $5 million of cap money in order to part ways with the quarterback.

The journeyman will now hit the free-agent market having already played for six different franchises during his 12-year career.

Fellow Jets quarterback Geno Smith is also an unrestricted free agent, leaving Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg as the only quarterbacks on New York's roster.
