Eagles release Leodis McKelvin

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the team announced Wednesday.

McKelvin spent one season with the Eagles, starting 12 games and recording 43 tackles with two interceptions and 16 pass deflections. He was signed after eight seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where we worked under Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

The veteran defensive back will be 32 when the 2017 season opens and likely won't be used as a starting cornerback on his next team, assuming he signs as a free agent.

The Eagles are reportedly looking to free up cap room for the 2017 offseason, asking Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters to consider a pay cut.
