The Los Angeles Rams are expected to hire Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur as their offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

New Rams head coach Sean McVay has long been thought to be targeting LaFleur for the lead offensive role on his staff, and news of the impending move comes almost immediately after the Falcons named Steve Sarkisian as Kyle Shanahan's replacement at coordinator.

LaFleur, a longtime NFL and college assistant, spent each of the last two years working with the quarterbacks in Atlanta.

The Rams will hope the success he enjoyed in that role, helping Matt Ryan emerge as one of the league's premier signal-callers, can streamline the early career development of 2016 No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.

In running through the NFC to earn the organization's second Super Bowl appearance, the Falcons' offense finished this past season ranked first in scoring and second only to the New Orleans Saints in total yards.

More to come.
