Report: DeMarcus Ware open to Cowboys return

Jim Brown / USA TODAY Sports

DeMarcus Ware said Friday he hopes to return to Denver next season, but if the veteran linebacker isn't re-signed by the Broncos, he's open to returning to the Dallas Cowboys, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ware spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Cowboys, racking up 127 sacks.

The 34-year-old missed half of the 2016 season due to a back injury, but said he feels "like a new man" after undergoing surgery.

“I definitely want to play, I've got a lot of passion, I'm always chasing that ring," Ware told Jeff Legwold of ESPN. "People say if you get four sacks you pass this guy, or if you get five sacks you pass that guy, four-this, five-that. But my biggest thing is always I want a ring while I'm sacking the heck out of the quarterback."

If a Super Bowl is Ware's priority, both Dallas and Denver could provide solid opportunities to win a championship.

The Cowboys look set on offense, and Ware could help fix their struggling pass rush on defense, even as a part-time contributor.
