Arians expects Palmer to return in 2017

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has received the commitment from receiver Larry Fitzgerald for the 2017 season and he expects the same from quarterback Carson Palmer.

"I think he'll announce he's coming back real soon," Arians said of his 37-year-old quarterback Friday on "NFL Insiders," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Cardinals experienced a disheartening fall from their NFC Championship Game appearance in 2015 to a playoff-less 7-8-1 campaign in 2016. While Fitzgerald led the league in catches, Palmer threw 14 interceptions, took 40 sacks, and finished the year with an 87.2 quarterback rating.

Should he return, 2017 will be the 15th season for Palmer.

The Cardinals still own a win-now roster and are likely better suited to have a veteran quarterback at the helm rather than begin anew with a rookie or inexperienced passer.
