If star running back Adrian Peterson hits the open market this offseason, he would be welcome on a team in his home state.

"Who wouldn't want Adrian Peterson?" Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins said to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday.

"We've got Lamar Miller here, but I don't think Lamar Miller would be opposed to having Adrian Peterson helping out in the backfield. He's a great player. Why not?"

Peterson has been one of the most productive backs in the NFL since he entered the league in 2007, but he has had two of his last three seasons shortened by significant injuries.

He remains property of the Minnesota Vikings, but will be 32 next season and is scheduled to make $11.7 million while costing the team $18 million against the cap. He'll also be due a $6-million roster bonus if he's on the team by March 11.

If he is released before then, count Hopkins among the players hoping Peterson will join their team.
