Three months on from his surprise midseason retirement, Arian Foster appears to have no regrets about his decision.

Foster walked away from football at age 30, the latest in a growing line of relatively early retirements. The former running back says it was easier for him because of his interests outside of the sport.

"It was easier for me, just knowing that you have outside passions, outside things that you also fell in love with throughout your career," said Foster on Saturday, according to Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle. "So it was a little easier."

Foster says he plans to enjoy his retirement for a while longer before turning his attention to academic pursuits.

"Bucket lists, I'm going to travel a for a while, enjoy life. Then, work on my other passions which is arts and sciences. They're separate - arts and sciences," Foster said. "I'm going to pursue a degree in physics and see where else life takes me."

Foster retired after appearing in just four games during his first season with the Miami Dolphins. He spent the first seven seasons with the Houston Texans and holds nearly every significant rushing franchise record.

His last few seasons in Houston were marred by injury, and when he announced his retirement, Foster said, "my body just can't take the punishment this game asks for any longer."
