The Minnesota Vikings have named Pat Shurmur their offensive coordinator, the team announced Friday.

Shurmur, initially hired last offseason as a tight ends coach, had stepped in as coordinator on a interim basis when Norv Turner resigned in November.

Multiple reports suggested heading into the offseason that it was only a matter of time before he received the full-time job, and the Vikings now maintain some all-important continuity on that side of the ball.

With previous stops as offensive coordinator having come with the now-former St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles, Shurmur has plenty of history working alongside quarterback Sam Bradford.

The Minnesota offense, which was forced to overcome the injury absences of both Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson, finished the 2016 campaign ranked 23rd in scoring and 28th in total yards.

Other coaching staff moves confirmed by the team Friday include Kevin Stefanski transitioning from running backs coach to quarterbacks coach, Kennedy Polamalu being brought aboard to coach the running backs in Stefanski's place, and Clancy Barone being hired to coach tight ends.
