Palmer: I'll return for 2017 season 'if my body responds'

Carson Palmer took a beating in 2016 behind a porous offensive line, and the Arizona Cardinals quarterback is apparently waiting to see how his body recovers before committing to another season.

The 37-year-old, along with Larry Fitzgerald, have reportedly yet to decide their futures, with sources telling NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that 2016 was the "most physically trying season" of the quarterback's career.

"I guess nothing is ever official until it is, but I'd like to play if my body responds the way I hope," Palmer told Dan Bickley of azcentral.com last week.

Palmer took 40 sacks this campaign, with only five quarterbacks in the league taking more - and none past 30 years old.

He is contracted through the 2018 season and is among the highest-paid players in the league. However, Palmer has struggled with injuries throughout his career, especially knee issues, so it's possible he decides to retire with his health intact.
