Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is "almost certain" to accept a multi-year offer from the San Francisco 49ers to be their next head coach, Mike Silver of NFL.com reports, citing multiple sources.

It was reported earlier Tuesday that the Niners plan to offer the job to Shanahan when the Falcons' season comes to an end. They will play for the NFC championship on Sunday.

Upon his hiring, Shanahan will have a hand in selecting the team's next general manager, according to Silver. Among the candidates, Green Bay Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst appears to be the favorite, Silver adds.

The 49ers' choice appeared to have come down to Shanahan and Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Tom Cable. Cable, however, withdrew his name from consideration on Tuesday, as did Seahawks executive Trent Kirchner for the general manager's post. They were to come as a package deal, Silver writes.
