The San Francisco 49ers plan to offer their head coaching job to Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan whenever his current club's season is over, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Niners plan to meet with Shanahan again next week for either a two-day interview to vet general manager candidates or to be hired, depending on the result of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers, according to MMQB's Albert Breer.

The team was reportedly "honing in" on Shanahan after New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels dropped out of the running Monday, and have yet to hire a general manager.

Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable was the other candidate for the 49ers head coaching job if Shanahan elected to return for another year with the Falcons, but he removed himself from consideration Tuesday night, according to his agent.
