Texans, offensive coordinator George Godsey mutually part ways

The Houston Texans and offensive coordinator George Godsey mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced in a statement.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien released the following statement:

I'm grateful for the tireless work ethic and contributions George has made to our team over the last three years. I wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Godsey worked as the team's offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, previously working as the Texans' quarterbacks coach in 2014.

Houston ranked 29th in total offense and tied for 28th in scoring offense, averaging a paltry 17.4 points per game in 2016.

In spite of the offense's poor performance this season, the Texans won the AFC South and won their wild-card round matchup against the Oakland Raiders. However, Houston was eliminated by the New England Patriots in the divisional round.

Brock Osweiler became the first quarterback to have three games in a season with 200 yards passing or fewer on 40 or more passing attempts under Godsey's tutelage. Osweiler signed a four-year, $72-million contract with $37 million guaranteed in March.

The Texans have yet to announce Godsey's replacement.
