Accusations of sexual assault made against Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph in 2003 have resurfaced following his hiring last week.

Joseph was accused of sexually assaulting two women while he was an assistant coach at Colorado University, where he played as a quarterback and running back from 1990-95.

A woman told police that she and a friend had consumed alcohol and marijuana with Joseph when he stripped naked, climbed into the bed where she was sleeping, and touched her. The other woman said Joseph did the same thing to her in another bed.

Joseph was not arrested or charged after one woman declined to cooperate with police and the other said she didn't want to press charges.

The allegations were public knowledge previously and the Broncos were aware of them when they hired Joseph.

The team issued a statement to 9News confirming as much:

We were aware of the reports from nearly 15 years ago, and like all candidates, we thoroughly reviewed his background. He was never charged with any wrongdoing and has moved on.

Joseph was also investigated for sexual harassment at Colorado for a separate incident around the same time.
