Report: Former Redskins DC Barry joining Rams as assistant HC

Sean McVay may be the youngest head coach in the NFL, but he appears to be dead set on surrounding himself with experience.

The Los Angeles Rams are adding former Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Joe Barry to their coaching staff, sources told Peter Schrager of Fox Sports.

Barry will serve as assistant head coach and will also coach the linebackers.

Barry spent the last two seasons as the Redskins' defensive coordinator, was the linebackers coach for the San Diego Chargers from 2011-14, and comes to the Rams with over 15 years of coaching experience in the NFL.

Washington fired Barry following the 2016 season after finishing 28th in the league in total defense.

The addition of Barry comes one day after it was reported the Rams would bring in Wade Phillips as their defensive coordinator. Phillips has been a coach in the NFL since 1976, 10 years before McVay was even born.
