The Los Angeles Rams' youth movement is underway.

The Rams made history Thursday, making former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay their next head coach and inking him to a five-year deal, according to Mike Garafolo of ESPN. At the ripe age of 30, McVay will be the youngest head coach in NFL history.

That distinction recently belonged to former Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin who ascended to the position at 31 years of age and eight months.

"This is an exciting day for the Los Angeles Rams as we welcome Sean McVay as our new head coach," Rams owner Stan Kroenke said in a statement. "The accomplishments and success that he has rendered in less than a decade in our league are remarkable. I am confident in his vision to make this team a consistent winner and to ultimately bring a Super Bowl title home to Los Angeles."

McVay had been a coach with the Redskins since 2008 and the leader of their offense for the past three seasons.

This past year, the Redskins' offense ranked third in the league and quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for the most passing yards in his career with 4,917.

Now, McVay will be entrusted in guiding the career of this year's first overall draft pick, Jared Goff.

The 22-year-old started the final seven games of this season for the Rams and finished the campaign with 1,089 passing yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

McVay will get one final look at his former team next season as the Redskins will visit the Rams in 2017.
