Adam Jones disagrees with his arrest: 'None of this makes sense'

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones was released from police custody Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours after being arrested. And he was not happy to have spent the night in jail.

Jones was kept in custody overnight so that the results of his blood test could be clarified. He will appear before a grand jury on Jan. 13 and expects to have the truth come out at that time.

"I'll let everything play out in court," Jones told reporters after being released Wednesday, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "Obviously, without getting into it, none of this makes sense."

The veteran defender was charged with misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business, as well as a felony count of harassment with a bodily substance. Jones doesn't believe what he did merited the reaction received, demonstrating the light poke to someone's arm that he claimed started the trouble.

"For touching a guy, like this, I got arrested," Jones said. "We'll see how it goes. I'm more than (confident) that this will be dismissed pretty soon. ...

"I'm sorry that this happened. It would be different if I was beating people's ass, but for touching someone?"

According to police documents, Jones was arrested at a Cincinnati hotel and allegedly refused to enter the police car, pulling away from authorities before kicking and headbutting an officer. He also allegedly spit on a nurse while being booked at Hamilton County Justice Center.

Jones apologized to fans and said he is likely to meet with head coach Marvin Lewis in the near future to discuss the incident.
