Texans' Savage ruled out vs. Raiders

The Houston Texans won't have quarterback Tom Savage in the lineup for Saturday's wild-card game against the Oakland Raiders, with head coach Bill O'Brien announcing Wednesday that Savage won't clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time to play.

O'Brien announced Tuesday that Brock Osweiler will start the game, but his latest announcement rules out any chance of Savage backing him up.

Savage took over as the Texans' starter for an ineffective Osweiler in Week 16 and was poised to start in the playoffs before suffering a concussion in the team's regular-season finale.

Now Houston will turn back to the man whom they gave a $72-million contract in free agency.
