Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett has declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, he announced in a statement shared by Bob Ballou of CBS.

"After talking with my family and my coaches, I feel it is in my best interest to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft," Garret said. "I would like to thank my teammates for always supporting me, encouraging me and holding me accountable. We are a family, and I will be close with these guys forever."

Garrett was hampered by injuries this season, missing three games, but recorded 33 tackles (15 for loss) and 8.5 sacks, including a game high 4.5 against UT San Antonio, in 10 contests this year.

"We wish Myles all the best in the upcoming NFL draft and with his professional football career," head coach Kevin Sumlin said according to Colin Deaver of KAGS. "Not only is he an exceptional talent, but he is an even better person and teammate.

"He has the desire, heart, and character to achieve greatness on and off of the football field."

Tabbed as the potential first overall pick in next spring's draft, Garrett first burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2014, recording 11 sacks in 11 games, setting an SEC freshman record.

In 2015, Garrett recorded 19.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and an interception. His 31 career sacks rank seventh on the Aggies all-time list.
