49ers vote Kaepernick for courage award

If there was any doubt that Colin Kaepernick didn't have the support of the San Francisco 49ers locker room, those thoughts were squashed Friday.

The 49ers players chose Kaepernick as the 2016 recipient of the Len Eshmont Award, an honor bestowed on the 49er who best exemplifies the inspirational and courageous play of Eshmont, a member of the original 1946 team.

Past recipients of the award include Hall of Famers Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice.

Kaepernick has faced criticism from all over this season for myriad reasons, including his ongoing protest of social injustices in the United States. Despite the criticism, the team's support for the signal-caller has been resolute - Kaepernick's started the last 10 games of the 49ers' season.

Offensive tackle Joe Staley won the team MVP award. Receiver Torrey Smith was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award and defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey won the Ed Block Courage award for commitment to sportsmanship and courage.
