Report: Romo expected to play Sunday for 1st time in more than a year

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is expected to play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer report.

It will be Romo's first game action since he suffered a broken collarbone on Thanksgiving 2015.

Dak Prescott is expected to start Sunday's game, but both Romo and fellow backup Mark Sanchez will also see action, according to Schefter.

Prescott is seeking an NFL-record 14th win by a rookie starting quarterback.

The Cowboys previously expressed hesitation at playing Romo, who was set to start in Week 1 before suffering a broken bone in his back during the preseason, behind their second-team offensive line.

It's unclear in what order the Cowboys plan to deploy their quarterbacks on Sunday.

The Week 17 matchup is meaningless for the Cowboys, who have already clinched a playoff bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
