Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert's injury-marred 2016 season has ended with the veteran undergoing back surgery, head coach Marvin Lewis said Thursday on SiriusXM NFL Radio, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Eifert's season debut was delayed until Week 7 because of an ankle injury suffered in last season's Pro Bowl. He later battled through a shoulder issue.

Now, he will miss the final two games of the season with a back injury severe enough to require surgery.

When healthy, Eifert is among the most dangerous tight ends in football, but his final numbers confirm his fitness issues: 29 catches for 394 yards and five touchdowns.
