Mariota set for surgery on broken fibula, to miss 4-5 months

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is set to undergo surgery to repair a fractured fibula Wednesday in Charlotte, head coach Mike Mularkey announced Monday.

Mariota will have a plate inserted as part of the procedure and is facing a recovery timeline of four-to-five months.

The significant injury, suffered in Saturday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, was an unfortunate break for Mariota as an impressive sophomore campaign comes to a close.

Taking another significant step in the right direction on the heels of a promising rookie year, the 2015 first-round pick's season comes to an end with 3,426 passing yards for 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Mularkey indicated Monday that, given the anticipated timeline, the Titans are hoping to have their star quarterback for at least some of the offseason team activities held in the spring.

Doing so would presumably give him every opportunity to be at full strength heading into training camp and thus continue on his impressive early career development path.
