Beckham says he was fined for wearing cleats honoring Craig Sager

New York Giants wideout Odell Beckham Jr. says the NFL fined him $18,000 for wearing custom cleats honoring NBA sideline reporter Craig Sager, who died last week.

The cleats Beckham wore in Week 15 were to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to a cancer charity.

The NFL has strict rules about all player attire, including cleats. Only cleats in approved team colors may be worn on the field during games. Many players skirt these rules by wearing custom cleats for warmups only.

Beckham wore the Sager-themed cleats during the game.

Earlier this week, Beckham suggested that the NFL treats him differently than other players, and that he would have been fined for jumping into a Salvation Army kettle in celebration - something Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was not fined for doing last week.
