Jaylon Smith: No regrets about playing bowl game despite injury

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

A devastating knee injury in last year's Fiesta Bowl cost former Notre Dame star Jaylon Smith millions in the NFL draft, but the Dallas Cowboys linebacker has no regrets about playing the inconsequential game.

Smith tweeted his stance Monday after Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott called out stars like Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey for skipping bowl games to start preparing for the draft.

Smith hasn't played a snap of football since blowing out his knee in his final game for the Fighting Irish - a contest that, coincidentally, came against Elliott's Ohio State team.

Smith was thought to be locked into a top-10 spot in the 2016 NFL Draft prior to the injury, but he slipped to the second round amid concerns about his knee.
