Jaguars' Blake Bortles: To remain starter

Bortles will keep his starting quarterback job for the remainder of the regular season, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis:

Bortles remaining the Jaguars starter was confirmed by interim coach Doug Marrone at Monday's press conference. That came after Gus Bradley was fired as head coach after Sunday's collapse in Houston, where the Texans opted to replace their wildly unproductive quarterback, Brock Osweiler. Although, unlike Osweiler, Bortles is still on his rookie contract, Sunday's downright awful outing further evidenced his lack of development, as Bortles averaged a career-worst 3.29 yards per attempt. On the whole, Bortles' 5.98 yards per pass this season only tops Osweiler among qualified quarterbacks, but with intent on keeping some familiarity in Jacksonville, Bortles will at least get to finish this season under center.
