Bill O'Brien's decision to bench Brock Osweiler for Tom Savage in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars was met with support from the majority of the Houston Texans' fans in attendance, but the head coach also received support from owner Bob McNair after the comeback win.

McNair acknowledged sitting Osweiler - who received a four-year, $72-million contract from the Texans in free agency - must have been a tough choice for O'Brien.

"I'm just glad I wasn't the one that had to make that decision," McNair said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "I mean, that was a gutsy call. Give coach credit, he made a change and it was for the good of the team. We benefited from it. Now we have three good quarterbacks and we are proud of all of them."

Savage looked competent under center and rallied the team from a deficit partly caused by two interceptions from Osweiler. He led two scoring drives in the fourth quarter to snatch the victory, keeping Houston tied atop the AFC South and in control of their playoff destiny.

The head coach didn't commit to a starter for Week 16, and McNair refused to give his opinion on the matter, saying the decision was entirely O'Brien's.

"Tom played very well," McNair said. "He got things going for us. That was a decision coach made and he's going to do what he thinks is best for the team. He will be visiting with the quarterbacks and working with them deciding what we will be doing going forward. That's his call."
