The Houston Texans benched Brock Osweiler in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars following two early interceptions.

Tom Savage replaced Osweiler on the field.

Houston sat in first place in the AFC South entering Week 15, no thanks to its 30th-ranked passing offense.

Osweiler - who the Texans signed to a four-year, $72-million contract in free agency - has struggled all season with turnovers and throwing deep. His two interceptions Sunday pushed his season total to 18, the most in the league, and his 5.79 yards-per-attempt average is the worst mark among qualifying quarterbacks.

The decision to bench Osweiler was met with cheers from Texans fans:

Savage, a fourth-round pick from the 2014 NFL Draft, connected on a 32-yard pass on his first possession, but the Texans' drive stalled in the red zone.
