Manziel pledges to take Carr up on friendship offer

Johnny Manziel seems to appreciate having one of the NFL's rising stars in his corner.

After getting word of Derek Carr's interview with The MMQB's Peter King, in which the Oakland Raiders quarterback said he'd "absolutely" like to help Manziel and hopes that he'll reach out, the former Texas A&M star happily accepted the offer.

The fellow 2014 draft selections had a brief Twitter exchange on the matter Monday.

"You know, I spent a lot of time around him," Carr told King as part of an NBC "Football Night" feature. "He's such a good dude. I obviously wish him the best, you know ... I hope that ... hopefully one day he'll reach out, (I'd) be able to talk to him and be a friend to him."

Manziel's short stay with the Cleveland Browns came to an end this past March when, after a number of off-field issues, the club opted for his outright release.

Selected 14 spots before Carr landed with the Raiders early in the second round, Manziel was expected to be Cleveland's long-awaited answer at the quarterback position when he was taken 22nd overall.
