Derek Carr and Johnny Manziel were both selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, with Manziel going 22nd overall to the Cleveland Browns and Carr selected 14 picks later by the Oakland Raiders.

But since then, their careers have headed in opposite directions.

Manziel lasted just two seasons in Cleveland, with off-field issues dominating his time with the team. Carr, meanwhile, has established himself as the Raiders' franchise player, has Oakland on the cusp of its first playoff appearance since 2002, and is garnering MVP talk.

With Manziel appearing far from an NFL return, Carr says he hopes his draftmate reaches out so he can help get him back on track.

"You know, I spent a lot of time around him," Carr told the MMQB.com's Peter King, as part of an NBC "Football Night" feature. "He's such a good dude. I obviously wish him the best, you know ... I hope that ... hopefully one day he'll reach out, (I'd) be able to talk to him and be a friend to him."

When asked if he'd love the chance to help Manziel, Carr said, "Absolutely."

"He's so talented, so I understand why he was drafted where he was," Carr added. "He could throw, could run, a dynamic athlete, dynamic player. Obviously, he just had a little trouble. He's still young, though, so hopefully he'll get another chance someday and he'll be all right."

Manziel hasn't received any interest from teams since his release back in March, likely due to his ongoing off-field issues.

He recently reached a deal with prosecutors for the conditional dismissal of a domestic assault case involving his former girlfriend.
