The New York Giants are adding another potential playmaker to the fold just in time for the club's most important game of the year.

Running back Shane Vereen has been activated from injured reserve and will play Sunday night against the NFC East-leading Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Saturday.

Vereen's return to the lineup comes after missing nine games with a triceps injury suffered in Week 3.

His presence alongside Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins makes for a crowded Giants backfield but, at the very least, he'll have the opportunity to emerge as the offense's top receiving back down the stretch.

Vereen tallied 59 receptions for 494 yards and four touchdowns across 16 games after landing in New York as a free-agent acquisition from the New England Patriots last year.
