Emmitt Smith: I love what I'm seeing from Ezekiel Elliott

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports

Just like the vast majority of Dallas Cowboys fans, Emmitt Smith can't get enough of watching Ezekiel Elliott.

The rookie running back has taken the NFL by storm in his first season. He leads the league in yards (1,285) and carries (263), is a major reason for the Cowboys sitting at 11-1, and is a strong contender for the MVP award, all of which has Smith in awe.

"I see a guy who has vision, explosion, speed, and quickness," Smith said, according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN. "I just see a guy that's poised to do great things in this league and has an offensive line that will give him an opportunity to do it.

"I'm loving what I'm seeing. I am inspired."

Elliott's special talents were on display during the Cowboys' Week 13 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. With Dallas desperate to extend a 14-9 lead late in the game, a run by Elliott was nearly stopped for a minimal gain. However, the rookie was able to bounce to the outside for a 30-yard gain to set up a vital field goal.

"It was a beautiful jump cut," Smith said of Elliott's move. "It was beautiful.

"I used it as a tool to show my son - most people don't even know what a jump cut is - and illustrate what he did and how he got out into the open. It was a great teaching moment."
