Browns rookie Kindred out for season after breaking ankle on bye week

Cleveland Browns rookie safety Derrick Kindred will be placed on the non-football injury list with a broken ankle, head coach Hue Jackson announced Wednesday.

Kindred, a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, suffered the injury while training on his own during the team's bye week.

The TCU product had quickly settled into a role as the Browns' third safety, but his debut season now comes to an end with four games to play.

Kindred will now look to get healthy in time for offseason activities. After showing well in his first taste of NFL action, racking up 46 tackles and five passes defensed across 12 appearances, he'll presumably have the opportunity to compete for a starting job in training camp next summer.
